Sacramento's Latest Hit to Your Wallet - ...so much for ‘affordability’
Just when you thought Sacramento couldn't find one more way to squeeze your family's budget, five unelected bureaucrats on the California Energy Commission voted this week to ban roughly 70% of the replacement tires currently sold in our state.
You read that right. Five people, appointed by the Governor, not elected by you, just decided which tires you're allowed to buy for your own car.
Starting in 2029, and getting stricter in 2033, tire
shops across California will lose access to most of
the affordable tire models families rely on to get
to work, get the kids to school, and get through
daily life. The tires that stay legal will cost
hundreds more per set.
The Commission says you'll earn it back through gas savings down the road. Families I talk to every week aren't buying it, literally. They're already paying record gas prices, sky-high electricity bills, and grocery costs that keep climbing. Now they're being told to hand over more upfront for tires too, on a promise from Sacramento that the math will work out eventually.
This is what happens when unelected agencies are handed sweeping power with zero
accountability to voters. No public vote. No legislative debate on the floor. Just five appointees deciding what's best for millions of California families.
I'll keep fighting for real affordability, not mandates dressed up as savings. That means pushing for accountability over these unelected commissions and standing up every time Sacramento tries to make life more expensive in the name of good intentions.
Its an honor to serve you!
