It’s an honor to represent the 70th Assembly District in Sacramento. I’ve included some community events and updates from Sacramento in this month’s newsletter. As always, please do not hesitate to contact my office if I can ever be of assistance.

Legislative Update

I recently introduced AB 778, a bill to defer the $800 minimum franchise tax on businesses until they reach $20,000 in annual revenue. Startup costs are one of the biggest barriers for potential business owners, so this bill would make it easier for someone to start a business and not have to worry about the $800 tax until they start generating a healthy profit.

I also had five bills advance out of committee on everything from Alzheimer’s awareness to making it easier for community colleges to offer vocational opportunities for students.

Please do not hesitate to contact my office to share your feedback on any state legislative proposal.

Help with Utility Bills

Protecting Utility Ratepayers AB 1710

In response to dozens of constituent requests, I introduced Assembly Bill 1710 which would cap utility rate increases within the rate of inflation. Earlier this year, consumers were faced with unprecedented utility rate increases and my bill, if passed, would provide relief so ratepayers don’t have to decide between heating their home or affording medications.

In the meantime, there are programs available to help consumers that need immediate relief on utility bills.

Protecting Californians’ Privacy from AI Generated Deepfakes

Protecting Californians from AI generated Deepfakes AB 1721

In recent years, AI technology has expanded and in many cases has made life easier. However, bad actors have used the likeness of other people on “deepfake” adult content. My bill, AB 1721 would criminalize the practice of using the AI generated likeness of someone without their consent depicted in “deepfake” adult content.

Tour of Joint Forces Training Base, Los Alamitos

As a member of the Assembly Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs, I was so honored to join LTC Vig on a tour of the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos. The base serves as a vital asset for Orange County and is home to several commands, including the 79th Sustainment Support Command and the 40th Infantry Division.

The highlight of the trip was visiting the Sunburst Youth Academy, where teens from all over Southern California are enrolled in a high school program that teaches, leadership, developing a strong moral character, and camaraderie while offering regular field trips off base.

Meeting with CSULB

I had the pleasure of meeting with students and staff from Cal State Long Beach on their recent visit to the Capitol. As the Vice-Chair of the Assembly Committee on Higher Education, I always enjoy hearing the perspective of students and other stakeholders about California’s college system.
