This week at our State Capitol, Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon organized "Rising Tide: A Summit on Economic Security." This two-day event featured experts from across the world who are working on innovative solutions to modern problems—It was great learning how others states and countries are tackling issues of homelessness, housing affordability, and the “future of work.”
I was honored to have the opportunity to introduce Detroit area native, Najah Bazzy, whose humanitarian work in the Detroit region has transformed lives and should serve as a national model. The foundation that she created, Zaman International (LINK), is a nonprofit that supports impoverished women and children of all backgrounds. The nonprofit has helped more than 250,000 people!
Health Talk: It was great to meet with the Santa Cruz Health Services Agency and local residents advocating on behalf of the California Alzheimer’s Association. I always look forward to these discussions to learn about health care issues facing our community and new health innovations and practices that are coming online to improve public health.
As you may have read or seen in the news, twelve cases of the Coronavirus have been confirmed in the United States, two of which involved residents from San Benito County. Honoring Local Leaders: I enjoyed attending the Annual Gilroy Chamber of Commerce's Spice of Life Awards. The annual celebration honors local leaders and businesses that go above and beyond to give back to our community. It was an honor to present a resolution to Jaime Rosso and Elaine Bonino, Man and Woman of the Year. Both have spent decades in Gilroy doing amazing work to help make Gilroy the special community it is today. Congratulations to all those honored for their work!
Census 2020: Beginning March 12, people can begin to self-report on the 2020 Census!
