Assemblywoman Natasha Johnson’s District Office Internship Program provides high school and college students with a meaningful opportunity to experience the day-to-day operations of a California State Assembly district office. This program introduces students to public service while exposing them to the responsibilities and activities involved in supporting a legislator and serving constituents.
Interns gain hands-on experience in constituent services, community outreach, and civic engagement. Typical activities include assisting constituents, supporting community-based organizations, coordinating outreach initiatives, helping organize events and projects, maintaining databases, staffing the office, and contributing to other district operations.
Internships are available to students currently enrolled in high school or college. Depending on individual academic programs, students may be eligible to receive school credit for their participation.
Many public service professionals began their careers through internships in legislative offices. This program offers a valuable opportunity to develop practical skills, understand California’s democratic process, and build professional connections while serving the community.
Interns participate according to mutually agreed-upon schedules. All internship positions are voluntary, unpaid, and in person. Both part-time and full-time students are eligible to apply.
