SJR 10: Condemning Human Rights Abuses in the People’s Republic of China
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is interfering in California’s legislative process, and Senate Democrat Leadership is caving to their pressure. Senator Anderson’s SJR 10 condemns the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and recognizes the bipartisan resolution passed by Congress calling on the PRC to discontinue forced organ harvesting of Falun Gong prisoners of conscience. Anderson’s attempts to bring SJR 10 to the Senate floor have been silenced by Democrat leadership at the CCP’s request.

Falun Gong is a peaceful spiritual practice rooted in Buddhism that is founded on the principles of truth, compassion, and tolerance. The practice gained immense popularity in China in the 1990’s until it was outlawed in 1999 by Chinese Communist Party leaders threatened by the sheer number of practitioners. Extensive reporting by human rights organizations and the U.S. Department of State has detailed the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners and other ethnic and faith-based minority groups in China. Renowned human rights attorney David Matas and former Canadian Secretary of State for Asia-Pacific Hon. David Kilgour was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for their investigative reporting on forced organ harvesting on Falun Gong prisoners in China. Many Falun Gong practitioners who survived torture in PRC labor camps have made California their home, and are peacefully protesting the conditions in China that many of their loved ones still endure.
SJR 10, sponsored by Doctors Against Forced Organ Harvesting and Falun Gong practitioners, officially condemns the persecution in China and acknowledges H.Res. 343. After receiving bipartisan support in the Senate Judiciary committee, SJR 10 was unexpectedly sent back to the Rules committee by the Senate Pro Tem after the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco threatened California’s working relationship with China on climate change and international students at our state schools.

Resolutions condemning state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting on Falun Gong practitioners in China have been passed by the following governments:
  • U.S. House of Representatives
  • Minnesota State Senate
  • Illinois State House of Representatives
  • Pennsylvania General Assembly
  • European Parliament
  • Canadian Parliament
  • Australian Parliament
As a result of the overwhelming evidence of the illicit organ trade in China, Israel, Taiwan, Italy and Spain have passed laws to stop their citizens from receiving illegal human organs.

Standing up against genocide has always been a California value, and we cannot tolerate interference from a communist foreign power with the state legislature. SJR 10 deserves a vote on the Senate floor. Sign the petition below to demand SJR 10 be referred back to the floor for a vote.

Senator Anderson, I support SJR 10 and your effort to condemn human rights violations despite Chinese Communist interference in our legislature.
